Giving Thanks
November 24, 2009
My daughter’s birthday is just around the corner. It just happens to be Thanksgiving Day. I think my diet may have to wait until the craziness is over…. Then again no time like the present to begin. Tofu turkey anyone? Just kidding turkey is actually a very healthy food item as long as it isn’t drenched in gravy. The other Thanksgiving favorites? Well I am sure there is a way to make them healthier…..
Happy Birthday to my daughter and to the rest of you, enjoy your celebrations!
Challenge.

Cold Anyone?
November 8, 2009
I think it is safe to say we are in the midst of the cold and flu season. In which case, might I ask would anyone like my cold?
I didn’t think so. Which is why I am sitting at home instead of going to church. I have a friend who is in the midst of chemo treatments and is therefore banned from church. Why? So that she won’t catch anyone’s illness. I keep wondering why people don’t take this into account through daily life. If your child is sick why are you at the portrait studio trying to coax a smile out of the poor dear? If you have the sniffles why are you at the gym coughing your germs all over the machines so the people who are there to get healthy will get sick?
Just a few things to consider hopefully then you will understand why I choose to stay home and keep my yucky germs to myself. The cycle should end here. (I hope my family isn’t sick… they went to church.)
Walking
November 4, 2009
I do a lot of walking. I walk for exercise, and I walk to and from my kid’s school 3 times a day at least. This is because My daughter is in the afternoon kindergarten class. I love to walk.
My kids always ask if we have the car when I go to pick them up from school. I try to tell them it does them good to walk. I don’t think they buy it. They like to hike but a lot of time 10 minutes in, they are telling me that they are tired and their legs hurt.
That is why I found it funny on Halloween night that I never once heard a complaint out of my kids! I guess the next hike needs to be laden with treats. Hansel and Gretel had it right all the time. Let them follow the treat laden trail. I don’t think it would quite work so well then.
On a side note, I figured out what to do with all the candy. Hubby and I sat down with the kids and told them about the soldier overseas who might like to have a treat and it can be our way of thanking them. My kids picked out a few pieces of candy and the rest went to the local dentist office who happens to be collecting treats for the troops! Awesome idea! wish I had thought of it sooner!
Phew!

I am going to take a second and talk of another little nagging worry. Not my weight, but of the same pattern. Hubby came home yesterday and announced that he will get his first check on the 20th. While It is customary for people to have to wait for their first check, for us who live unemployment check to unemployment check, it’s hard to get back into a routine.
I hate that this blog seems to be so negative. I am hoping for a positive upturn soon. There are, however, many people who I love dearly who have been there for us every step of our journey. I thank them for that. They have been our saviors.
Hmmm?

It really isn’t fair for my kids that they walked and walked and walked yesterday and then we have to get rid of the candy. I don’t want it around for my sake, but they should be able to have some when they want it. If Hubby is careful, it could last until Christmas. (Anyone have a safe we could borrow?) Locking it up and hiding it should do the trick.
I love food that is good for me. It’s not that I don’t want to eat the good stuff. The problem is I like all the stuff that isn’t so good for me too! So my solution is usually to keep it out of the house. Unfortunately, the snacks have been sneaking in under Hubby’s radar as of late. He graciously says nothing. Hence I need to have a safe and let him lock it up. He could take the key with him to work
I am excited for Hubby to start work tomorrow. Though this does mean that I will have to be the one hauling kids around even when I go to the gym after I am done with work. It will present a challenge, but with my workout buddy by my side I am sure she will help me over that hill. It’s the mountain that worries me. Just keep going.
Ever heard that country song about the climb?
Spooky

It’s Halloween today. My kids have had a full week of tricks and treats all culminating in a huge run amok night tonight. The scary thing for me is all the candy. I can’t think of a candy that I don’t really like and therein lies the problem.
Can you imagine for a heavy person, the Holidays are the time when it is really easy to fall off the wagon. You have Halloween when you get candy all the time followed by the famous stuff your mouth day Thanksgiving. Then there is Christmas where I want to make good memories for my kids and teach them how to cook. We do a lot of baking and candy making and we give it away but not without tasting it first.
So somehow I have to keep myself from stuffing and gorging this season. I don’t remember how I did it last year. I am not so sure I did do it. So here I sit anticipating and dreading this all at once. Any suggestions?
Rebounding?
October 30, 2009
I went to my closet to put something nice on and what do you know it’s cold and I have no sweaters. I guess when you live in sweats because you work in a gym you overlook these things.
So, Yesterday I went into the store to buy a sweater. I thought this should be easy, I have lost a lot of weight ant I am now a size 16 right? Boy was I wrong after an hour and a half, I finally walked out with a beautiful sweater, but it was…. (brace yourself) a size 22! I want to cry how did I fall so hard so fast?
Just a few months ago going into summer I was buying size 16 shorts to wear during the hot months. I don’t buy clothes all the time mind you and I am reasonable about what I buy, but when your gym shorts from last year are falling off of you (Yay) you need a new pair.
My husband lost his job shortly after I bought those shorts…. I don’t think I handled the stress very well. I switched from watching every calorie to watching every job posting. I was exercising to be sure but it hasn’t been the energetic exercise of before. My husband has finally, after 6 months, returned to work, and I feel a lot less stressed, so I have turned back to fixing my health.
This is what I found. During my hiatus, my shorts were getting snug and I was feeling a slug. I am hoping that those thing will be past tense from here on out. I gained back …. ( please sit down) 26 pounds! YIKES ! Yes I said 26. Not good. So I am turning to a blog to talk about the stress and maybe about the success. Hey its works to keep other people sane. Why not me too?
